Abstract:

The Configuration of the Watertable was prepared in 1980 to serve as a 'predevelopment' base line for future water use information. It represents the elevation of the top of the saturated zone of the principal aquifer. The data was hand-contoured by CSD geoscientists (mainly G. W. Freethey and V. L. Souders) using water level measurements, CSD testhole logs and well registrations. The contours are interpretive, done to a standard of within 1/2 of the mapped interval. (10 feet with dense source wells, 50 feet normally). Additional note Clip to COHYST study boundary with extended 50,000 feet. Projected in State Plane coordinates.

Purpose: To summarize the configuration of the nominal 'water table'.

The concept of a contiguous 'water table' underlying the surface is well rooted in hydrogeology. This mapping was done to quantify the concept based on water level data, and professional experience. The extent and elevation of the top of this saturated zone does not consider the yield of the wells, nor the quality of the water pumped from the well. Having a 'water table' does not imply having a useful water source. The contours were digitized from 1:250,000 paper maps. Checkplots were made and examined by CSD Staff.

1x2 degree paper maps were digitized using the usual ArcInfo practices. Eleven (11) separate maps were digitized, and test plots were examined by CSD staff. The results were then edgematched and APPENDed together to form the statewide data base. The item ELEV was added to represent the configuration elevation above sea level.
