Abstract:
Polygons of generalized depth-to-water from ground surface. Prepared by creating two surfaces. The elevation from DEM data, and the elevation of the water table from digitized mapping. The two surfaces are subtracted, forming a derived depth-to-water surface.
- Purpose:
Prepare a depth-to-water coverage for use in groundwater modeling.
Supplemental Information: This coverage has been re-projected to Stateplane, NAD83 for use in the Platte River Cooperative Hydrology Study, using the ArcInfo PROJECT command.

The data is based on 1x2 degree USGS quads that were converted to a digital elevation model (DEM) and concurrent mapping of the elevation of the watertable in the early 1980's. The nominal vertical accuracy is 50 feet, or about 16 meters. Horizontal accuracy doesn't exceed 100 meters.

1x2 degree DEM data was converted to grids using the DEMLATTICE command of ArcInfo. The several grids were merged using LATTICEMERGE and then CLIPped to the Nebraska Boundary. Similarly, 1x2 degree maps of the Configuration of the Watertable were digitized, edgematched and merged. The result was processed into a grid using the ArcInfo command TOPOGRID. The two grids were 'subtracted' using map algebra available in the ArcInfo GRID module. The difference was SLICEd into 50' intervals using GRID and the final grid converted into polygons of equal thickness using GRIDPOLY.
