Abstract:

A digitized version of the bedrock geology of Nebraska. Primary source is a 1:250,000 series of geologic bedrock maps for eastern and southern Nebraska. Published in the early '70s, a large portion of the area has been superseded, but not published. The remainder of the state has been published at 1:1,000,000 in 1986, but current mapping is being done on the surface geology, rather than bedrock geology. Updates are planned as they are developed by CSD geologists, on a county by county basis.

Purpose: Summarize the subsurface bedrock formation and structure

Supplemental Information: This coverage has been re-projected to Stateplane, NAD83 using the ArcInfo PROJECT command for use in the Platte River Cooperative Hydrology Study.

The source mapping was digitized from paper published maps. The scale varied from 1:250,000 for the east and south, and 1:1,000,000 for the north and west. Nominal product was to be a 1:500,000 map, but that has been postponed until CSD geologists can review subsurface data. The bedrock formations are (for the most part) buried under loess, sand or till overburden. Mapping in the west and north has concentrated on surface geology.
